The riviera kayak is a fantastic way to get out onto the water. As an inflatable kayak it packs up into a handy backpack that you can throw in the car and head out.
The inflation time is pretty good for a larger inflatable, but make sure you have a decent pump else it can be a pain. The kayak sides even have an inflation gauge on them to show when there is just the right amount of air in them which really helps. The riviera only comes with one paddle even though it's a two seater so bear this in mind if you'd rather have both occupants paddling and buy an extra paddle.
Once on the water, the riviera is comfortable for two and makes it easy to get started. The only down side for an inflatable kayak is that it is easier to steer off course as there is nothing underneath the kayak stopping it from being rocked and moving sideways. There is a skeg that can be bought separately if this is a concern, but it is not essential.
The paddle that comes with the riviera is a little basic, although it does the job. This is a easy upgrade though if you want to get up a little more speed. The paddle does split into different parts though which does help with transporting the kayak compared with an fixed alternative. Make sure to tighten the connections though else the paddle can move when paddling hard in the water.
The fact it is inflatable actually adds a small level of comfort when out on the water and with a little space behind the rear seat you can store a picnic or some supplies too. Make sure you add some life jackets with your purchase if you don't already own some and a strong rope can be handy if you're kayaking somewhere to stop and want to leave the riviera tied up.
Overall, the riviera is a great way to get out and have some fun on the water. It is easy to transport for a kayak and setup for an inflatable. If you're doing more serious trips you might want to spend a bit more, but this is great for exploring a local river or canal.
